Cartoon Character
|
I choose to illustrate Lumpy Space Princess (LSP) as a way to get a better grasp on Adobe Illustrator. Although I have not seen the show in quite some time, I miss watching it with my brother. They have many interesting characters so it was the perfect show to choose. I love LSP's sassy and humour and I thought it would be a great starting project. As always, I enjoyed exploring the software and spending time to learn how to make my design exactly how I want it. I also appreciate how there are similar features in Photoshop which made it easier and less stressful to work. The one aspect that I found difficulty was when trying to change the colour but I solved that by creating in different layers. When comparing my work to my inspiration, the vibrance looks different but I used the colour selector so I'm not sure what happened. I love how LSP turned out and I am super proud that my hard work paid off. Overall I am looking forward to using Illustrator for more projects and continuing to challenge myself!

Myself as A Fairly OddParents Character
To start off, I think this cartoon looks the most like me out of the other two in this assignment. I am extremely happy with how this character developed. I also believe that it was easier to create as I have been working on Illustrator more often and I have been broadening my knowledge. I started off designing the face which was very enjoyable. I added the dimples which made it even more realistic. I was not sure how to go about the nose in mouth, but after looking at other characters from the show I was able to decide what I was going for. The smile works great and I am very happy with my lip colour. The hair was the most difficult aspect since I did not know what I wanted to do with it. Furthermore, I decided on this hairstyle as it is not as drastic as some of the characters on the show. I loved that I included the side bangs and the hair colour on this character is the best yet. As for the outfit, I decided on a simpler outfit that consists of a purple tank top and light washed jeans. It was a little tricky making the jeans look how I pictured but in the end they look good. I wanted to be wearing my Birkenstocks but which creating I ended up creating my Sperry boat shoes. I am wearing the spoon ring on my finger and I changed the necklace that I was wearing in each different character. This necklace is one that my mom gave to me for Christmas and it says, "Look above the stars and wish." I am happy to include such cute jewelry. To better represent me, I included a volleyball and I think it turned out super cute and accurate. Due to the pandemic, we obviously are not allowed to play as a team. I truly hope once the world is in better health that we can play one last time before we all go to University or College as we are in our final season with this club. Overall this is the most accurate character and I am very happy with how fair I have come working with Illustrator in the past few weeks.

Myself as A Simpsons Character
|
This illustration took much more time than I expected. I started off creating the face which took me several hours to perfect. The hardest aspect of the face was the eye covered by the nose. For a moment I was struggling to get the correct proportions of the cheek and the correct angle of the eye. Once I figured that out, I created semicircles under the eyes to portray myself smiling but it did not work out as it made me look much older. I knew I wanted my shirt to be an oversized sage green blouse so I worked hard to accomplish that. In the end the shirt is more fitted than I pictured but the sleeves are how I wanted them. I found this part difficult but I was able to work through it by trial and error. This aspect was very rewarding once it turned out how I imagined and it is one of my favourite parts of this project. I then worked on the jeans which was not too complicated. I was inspired by an outfit I saw on Pinterest and I wanted simple light washed high-rise jeans. The hand holding the Mamma Mia record was very tricky and is now in a strange position. It is technically facing the right way with the palm facing up. Overall I think it was a good first attempt. I am obsessed with Mamma Mia and I am always listening to the soundtrack, so it only made sense to include a record of it. The shoes were relatively easy and I was inspired by my Nike Cortez shoes. As for my jewelry, I incorporated my daily earrings, the spoon ring my brother got me for Christmas and the pink quartz necklace that belonged to my great-grandma on the chain from Raffi. Also, I obviously I had to include dimples to make it more realistic. Overall I am extremely happy with my finished product and I think it relates to The Simpsons characters rather well.

Myself as A South Park Character
This was the first character I did as the art style used in South Park is not as complex as the other two. Overall this process was rather calming and it did not take too long. I started with the head and created the body afterwards. I depicted myself wearing a red summer dress and a leather jacket that were my mom's when she was my age. The necklace I decided to incorporate is a heart locket from Raffi which is extremely thoughtful. I added short legs before adding my shoes to make it clear I am wearing a dress. I added in my Nike Cortez shoes which works great with my outfit. When focusing on my facial features, I added my dimples, blue/green eyes, eyelashes and eyebrows. Once I was finished with that, I realized I looked a tad bit masculine which was not what I was going for. To try to make it look more like me, I added a little bit of blush and I think it looks better with the help of the eyelashes. I play both ukulele and guitar so and either of those fit the aesthetic of my outfit. I decided to add the ukulele and I think it looks very cute. Throughout this process, I realized it was easy to create a South Park character but it was not as easy to make it fully resemble me. Overall I think that the time put into this paid off and I am proud of my hard work.
